YG Says the Secret Service and Promoters Still Put the Squeeze on 'FDT'

By ellis·July 8, 2026·1 min read

Nearly a decade after YG and the late Nipsey Hussle dropped "FDT" during Donald Trump's first presidential run, the West Coast protest anthem is still causing headaches for the Compton rapper. The record quickly blew past the boundaries of hip-hop to become a staple at nationwide demonstrations, but that massive cultural footprint came with heavy federal scrutiny. According to a report by HotNewHipHop, the single actually drew the attention of the Secret Service, who contacted YG over his explicit message targeting a major-party presidential candidate. During a recent sit-down on Big Boy’s Neighborhood, YG revealed that the blowback from the 2016 track never really stopped. Promoters still actively block him from performing the song today. He recalled a 2017 college gig where his team had to warn him that a ban on the track was written directly into his contract, meaning he wouldn't get paid a dime if he performed it. With immigration and national politics dominating the news cycle again, fans keep begging him for a sequel. YG isn't biting. He told Big Boy he has zero interest in revisiting that chapter because of his street ties and a desire to avoid any more government smoke. It is what it is. Watch the interview below.
