VA Tokyo Merges Two Icons with the adidas ‘Superstan’
Tokyo-based imprint VA has revived one of the more interesting experiments in the adidas archive, officially launching the hybrid 'VA Superstan.' The silhouette bridges the gap between two pillars of German sportswear: the rugged utility of the Superstar and the stripped-back minimalism of the Stan Smith. It is a exercise in restraint, utilizing the Superstar’s signature rubber shell toe and midsole as a foundation for the Stan Smith’s clean, perforated leather upper. While hybrid sneakers often suffer from design friction, this collaboration works by leaning into the shared DNA of 1970s court heritage. VA Tokyo’s influence is felt in the tonal black execution, a choice that prioritizes texture over branding and positions the shoe as a versatile staple rather than a loud statement piece. It’s a sophisticated nod to the Ura-Harajuku tradition of recontextualizing Western classics through a meticulous Japanese lens. The VA Superstan is available now through VA Tokyo for approximately $110 USD.
