Tupac Shakur’s estate is not letting his ongoing murder trial distract from the serious business of protecting his intellectual property. According to court documents detailed by HotNewHipHop—originating from an exclusive AllHipHop report—Amaru Entertainment is firing back at producer Daz Dillinger. Dillinger initially sued the estate for unpaid royalties on All Eyez On Me classics like "Ambitionz Az A Ridah" and "I Ain't Mad At Cha," pointing to a $91,000 payout he received in October 2024 as unverified due to missing paperwork. Amaru's response is a masterclass in legal offense. The estate claims Dillinger’s original Death Row Records contracts never entitled him to that $91,000 check in the first place, asserting he actually owes that money back to Amaru. More severely, the estate alleges Dillinger kept a master recording, walls of handwritten lyrics, and 40 studio reels of Tupac's performances. Amaru claims they own all of this, and that Dillinger’s subsequent sale of some of these items represents a loss of over $1 million. Holding onto physical masters while suing for digital royalties is an incredibly bold, if not entirely foolish, legal strategy. You cannot demand an accounting of the books while allegedly sitting on the physical archives. The estate is now demanding a jury trial to resolve the ownership of these assets and settle the outstanding debts.
