When a teenage Mac Mall dropped his debut album Illegal Business? on July 13, 1993, he didn't just put Vallejo on the map—he handed Tupac Shakur a director's chair. Pac stepped behind the lens to shoot the visual for the lead single, "Ghetto Theme."

Produced entirely by Bay Area architect Khayree, the track is pure mob music. The bassline creeps heavy under Mac Mall's frantic, street-level storytelling. The album moved over 125,000 copies and cracked the Billboard charts at #71. Pitchfork recently slotted Illegal Business? at number 72 on their 2025 list of the 100 Best Rap albums.
