Throwbacks: Gucci Mane - Everybody Looking

When Radric Davis stepped out of federal prison in the summer of 2016, a noticeably slimmer, grinning Gucci Mane walked straight to the booth to reclaim the Atlanta trap throne he helped build. The result was his ninth studio album, *Everybody Looking*.

People on the internet were so shocked by his physical transformation and newfound clarity that they literally started a conspiracy theory claiming he was a government clone. But you can't clone this level of pocket control. *Everybody Looking* is arguably the most lucid and technically sharp Gucci has ever sounded. The drug-induced paranoia of his legendary mid-2000s mixtape run was completely replaced by sheer, terrifying focus. Across 15 tracks, Guwop sounds entirely rejuvenated. He trades bars with his direct musical descendant Young Thug on "Guwop Home" and pulls heavyweight verses from Kanye West on "Pussy Print" and Drake on "Back on Road." But the features are just window dressing. The real draw is hearing a pioneer realize his own survival.
