Paycheque Announce Self-Titled Debut Album: Hear “Generic Actress”
Los Angeles duo Paycheque have announced their self-titled debut album, arriving this June via Telephone Explosion Records. Comprised of Alison Goldfarb (Geranium) and Jackson MacIntosh—the latter a seasoned collaborator known for his work with TOPS and Drugdealer—the project marks a shift toward a more deliberate, character-driven brand of art-pop. The lead single, “Generic Actress,” pairs a chintzy, retro-leaning production with sharp, guy-girl vocal interplay that feels both nostalgic and slightly cynical. While MacIntosh has spent years anchoring the psych-pop and soft-rock scenes of Montreal and LA, Paycheque feels like a pivot toward something more theatrical. Goldfarb’s presence adds a layer of performance art to the mix, moving away from the sprawling jams of their associated acts and toward concise, melodic vignettes. It is a record that seems to understand the artifice of the LA music industry, leaning into the “generic” to find something specific. Paycheque is out June 13th, and the duo will likely be a fixture in the West Coast club circuit throughout the summer.
