Nike and Zellerfeld Drop the Air Max 1000.2

May 5, 2026·1 min read

Nike is treating footwear design like a software patch with the release of the Air Max 1000.2. Developed in collaboration with 3D-printing house Zellerfeld, this iteration updates the silhouette with a refined lug design and structural tweaks aimed at faster manufacturing cycles. The “Black/Black” colorway serves as a stark, monochromatic showcase for the additive manufacturing process, moving the Air Max lineage away from traditional assembly lines and toward on-demand production. This partnership isn't just a technical exercise; it serves as the foundation for Nike’s new 'Air Works' program. Launching this May, the initiative will bring a cohort of global designers to the brand's headquarters to prototype the next phase of 3D-printed Air Max styles. By bypassing the constraints of traditional molding, Nike is positioning the 1000.2 as a bridge between heritage aesthetics and a future where a shoe's design can be updated as easily as an app.
