The Nike Air More Uptempo OG Returns for its 30th Anniversary

April 19, 2026·1 min read

Nike is officially reviving the Air More Uptempo ’96 in its original form for a Fall 2026 release. The drop marks the 30th anniversary of the silhouette most closely associated with Scottie Pippen during the Chicago Bulls’ historic 72-10 championship run. Unlike recent iterations, the 2026 reissue will maintain the specific construction accuracy of the 1996 original, featuring the classic black nubuck and the oversized white "AIR" lettering that defined the era's maximalist aesthetic. Designed by Wilson Smith, the Uptempo was a radical departure for Nike Basketball, serving as the first model to showcase full-length visible Air cushioning. By turning the internal technology into a literal billboard on the upper, Smith captured the high-volume energy of mid-90s street culture and NBA dominance. The 2026 version utilizes the same SKU as the 2023 retro, signaling Nike's commitment to the archival shape and materials that transitioned the shoe from the hardwood to a cornerstone of global streetwear.
