In Rotation: ERISTHEPLANET
In 2017, ERISTHEPLANET was a tween building a digital footprint through makeup tutorials and daily vlogs. Nine years later, the 25-year-old DMV native is dropping some of the most combative, feisty rap tracks on the eastern seaboard. We usually roll our eyes when a YouTuber decides they want a rap career. The graveyard of influencer rap is vast and embarrassing. But Eris bypasses that trap entirely because she actually respects the architecture of a verse. She isn't just cosplaying as an emcee for engagement. Her new eight-track project, IT BE THAT DAMN PHONE, clocks in at a brisk 17 minutes under EQT Recordings. There is zero bloat. She raps with a noticeable chip on her shoulder, turning the mundane anxieties of being perpetually online into sharp, venomous bars. On the breakout single "GEEZER" and the title track, she spits with a relentless, confrontational cadence. The snare snaps right in the pocket while her voice cuts through the mix. When I watched the video for "IT BE THAT DAMN PHONE," her sheer attitude jumped off the screen. She knows exactly how to work a camera, but now she has the breath control to match the visuals. Tracks like "SHOW GIRL" and "2025LOVESTORY" prove she has range, anchoring smooth production with a gritty DMV flow. It is internet culture put on wax, but it feels grounded in the concrete reality of the city that raised her. The rest of the world is finally catching up to what she's building. Dazed just featured her in their Summer 2026 issue. "SHOW GIRL" just landed on Spotify's New Music Friday and New Joints, while Audiomack threw "2025LOVESTORY" at the very top of their Discover Hip-Hop playlist. Even the community radio heads at KOOP in Austin are spinning her sh*t. The data just confirms what the music already told us. Check it out below.
