In Rotation: CUZZOS
Most rap groups are built in boardrooms, but CUZZOS formed by accident at TeaaWhy’s 25th birthday party. Big I-N-D-O, JassCole, Milly Mo, TeaaWhy, and BB started out celebrating and ended up cutting "Goochie Mayne," a track that accidentally launched one of the most exciting collectives in Los Angeles. Their new 12-track project *Family Reunion* runs on pure L.A. function energy. The production leans heavily into a soulful West Coast bounce. The basslines are thick enough to rattle a trunk. The vocal delivery stays slick. They trade verses with a natural shorthand, passing the mic like they're finishing each other's jokes. When artists like Buddy, Kamaiyah, and Tony Shhnow appear on the tracklist, it makes perfect sense. They all share that same sun-baked lineage. You can hear it clearly on tracks like "best." featuring Kalan.FrFr, where the melodic R&B undertones blend seamlessly with their sharp cadences. The industry completely forgot how to handle rap groups. Labels keep trying to engineer chemistry through algorithms and writing camps, and it always sounds stiff. You can't fake the bond of five women who actually hang out. They rap like they're trying to impress each other in the booth, which translates to massive replay value. It reminds me of the golden era of hip-hop crews, where the studio felt like a clubhouse and the listener just got lucky enough to eavesdrop. You can see their fearless energy on full display in the Ronnie Lewis-directed video for "FAMILY BUSINESS." The momentum is translating into real numbers. The standout cut "Humble'Em_PINK" just slid onto the Mellow Bars playlist. Even New York radio is paying attention, with WWPR throwing them in the mix. Getting East Coast spins on a deeply West Coast record requires an undeniable hook, and they have plenty to spare. Check it out below.
