Feds Fight AllStar JR's Release Ahead of Houston Shooting Trial

By ellis·July 8, 2026·1 min read

Detroit rapper AllStar JR is staying behind bars for now as he prepares to face the music in Texas. Federal prosecutors are pushing back hard against the rapper's bid to get out on bond before his trial starts on August 31. According to reporting from Complex, prosecutors filed a response on July 6 arguing that JR represents a clear danger to public safety that no release conditions can fix. The feds are keeping him locked up following an April 8 shooting at Confessions Restaurant in Houston. Authorities say JR, whose real name is Jeremy Christopher Ford, picked up a gun during an attempted robbery and fired multiple shots, leaving NBA Ben 10 paralyzed. To make matters worse for his defense, prosecutors claim JR mocked the victim on social media by offering a $20,000 bounty for a "Ben10 Challenge" to imitate the shooting, and even bragged about the incident in a music video. JR's legal team originally got the trial pushed back from July to late August to get more time to review discovery and investigate. But with the feds refusing to budge on his detention, it looks like he will be sitting tight in a cell until the jury convenes. Read the full update over at Complex.
