Fabolous Breaks Down How He Pushed Mixtapes To Feel Like Albums
Before streaming completely rewrote the rules of the game, the mixtape run was a rapper's true proving ground. Fabolous recently sat down with DJ Drama on Revolt TV to chop it up about his legendary run. The Brooklyn veteran explained how he intentionally treated his mixtape drops like major label rollouts, pushing the boundaries of what a street release could actually be. Fabolous also touched on the politics of the era, specifically the decision to step outside of his usual lane with DJ Clue to link up with Drama for a Gangsta Grillz tape. He wanted his tapes to sound like full-length projects rather than just a collection of quick freestyles. He treated the sequencing, the original production, and the guest verses with the same weight as a studio album. It changed how the whole industry approached the format. Check it out below.
