Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Makes History With Nine Emmy Nominations

By Lora·July 8, 2026·1 min read

The television academy just validated what the culture already knew. The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny officially secured nine Primetime Emmy nominations on Wednesday, July 8, according to Billboard. The massive haul breaks the previous record for a halftime performance, which was held by Lady Gaga’s 2017 showcase with six nods. Bunny brought out Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin as his special guests for the Santa Clara performance, turning the NFL's biggest stage into a massive celebration of bilingual pop dominance. The nine nominations represent a major win for Latin music’s mainstream positioning, especially after the initial online backlash that Bunny later addressed during his Saturday Night Live monologue. Among the nominations is Outstanding Variety Special (Live), which directly names Bad Bunny as a nominee. Winning this category is a tough task. Only one halftime show in television history has ever taken home the trophy in this category: the legendary 2022 performance featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, and 50 Cent. If Bunny pulls this off, he enters a very exclusive club. The Primetime Emmy Awards will air later this year.
