Adidas Files Suit to Remap the Legality of Sneaker Leaks
Adidas filed a federal lawsuit against sneaker release app Sole Retriever and its founder Harris R. Monoson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon on March 12. The complaint alleges trade secret theft, copyright infringement, and extortion, claiming the platform illegally obtained sensitive internal data, including CAD renderings for upcoming Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell signature models.
The lawsuit asserts that Sole Retriever used a "confidential pipeline" of five unidentified individuals to access proprietary designs and release schedules. Adidas is seeking more than $75,000 in damages, claiming the app attempted to leverage the stolen information to extract "preferential treatment" from the brand. This represents a significant legal escalation, as Adidas characterises sneaker leaks as protectable trade secrets rather than mere marketing noise. The outcome could dismantle the operational model for leak-based platforms that rely on internal data to drive subscriptions.
